Volunteers at the Royal Women’s Hospital were today thanked for the thousands of hours of dedicated and committed time and assistance to the hospital at a special function hosted by the Chief Executive Officer, Dr Sue Matthews.

“Assistance that is invaluable to our hospital, to our staff and patients, their families and to the many visitors who attend here each year,” Dr Matthews said.

“This year the number of volunteers has grown, as well as their duties in the hospital.

“There is no department within the Women’s that does not benefit from the contribution of volunteers.”

Dr Matthews told the volunteers at a special morning tea that they were often the face of the hospital when people first arrived.

“We value your warm, friendly and helpful disposition that aligns perfectly with our principles that we value so highly - of courage, passion, discovery and respect,” Dr Matthews said.

Under the direction of Volunteer Co-ordinator, Dilys Luciani, the Women’s has 100 hospital-based volunteers. There are also 105 knitters who produce beautiful and much needed items.

“On behalf of the Women’s Board, Executive and staff, I extend our thanks to all our volunteers - for your incredible commitment to our hospital, as it is your dedicated volunteer service that helps make the Women’s such a special and vital organisation,” Dr Matthews said.
