The purpose of this research project is to support Trauma and Violence Informed Care at the Royal Women’s Hospital (the Women's).

Victim-survivors of domestic, family, and/or sexual violence are experts in their experience.

They can provide valuable information on how the hospital can improve the way that it cares for people who have experienced trauma, abuse and/or violence.

There has been growing recognition of the importance of working with the people who are most affected by an issue, to design effective, long-term solutions. Some hospital-based projects have worked specifically with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and others have focused on mental health. Projects that have worked with victim survivors of domestic, family and sexual violence have not previously happened within a hospital or healthcare setting.

Therefore, this project intends to address this gap and work directly with victim-survivors to support Trauma and Violence Informed Care at the Women’s. This project may improve the care and outcomes for patients at the Women’s, especially those who have experienced domestic, family and sexual violence.
