Vulvar Disorders & Dermatology Clinic

The Vulvar Disorders and Dermatology Clinic provides gynaecological and dermatological assessment and management of chronic vulvar disorders. The clinic also has physiotherapists to treat vulvar pain syndromes and provides sexual counselling with a psychosexual medicine doctor or nurse practitioner.

Inclusion criteria

Any of the following:

  • Persistent vulvar pain
  • Abnormal appearance of the vulva
  • Vulval itch or vulvovaginal candidiasis that has not responded to treatment
  • Pregnant patients of the Women’s with any dermatological condition

Refer if the Women's is the patient's closest women's health service.

Urgent referral

For assessment or care due to concerning or deteriorating condition, please consider the most appropriate of:

  • Re-refer for triage reassessment
  • Women’s Emergency Care
  • Registrar review – contact via the Women's switchboard on (03) 8345 2000

All referrals must include essential demographic, medical and social history details, and relevant information about the presenting complaint.

Investigations

  • Recommended: Skin punch biopsy histopathology results for pigmented mole, lesion, skin changes, suspected VIN/VAIN
  • Consider: High vaginal swab micro and culture
  • Consider: STI screen, CST

Appointments

Clinics are held on Thursday afternoons.

The surgical (inpatient) list is monthly on a Thursday morning.

Appointments usually require face-to-face attendance.
