Menopause Clinic

The Menopause Clinic cares for patients who have complex medical conditions impacting menopause, or have significant and persistent menopausal symptoms after management by GP. This includes patients with premature menopause and surgical menopause.

Services available

The Women’s Menopause Clinic has a specialist team of gynaecologists, endocrinologists and specialist nurses who provide a multidisciplinary approach to care. We offer advice on:

  • medical therapies to alleviate menopausal symptoms
  • lifestyle factors such as exercise and nutrition
  • cardiovascular health
  • bone health.

Inclusion criteria

  • Early menopause: confirmed premature ovarian insufficiency
  • Surgical menopause: significant and persistent menopausal symptoms after bilateral oophorectomy
  • Significant and persistent menopausal symptoms after hormone treatment and lifestyle management by GP
  • Contraindications to menopausal hormone treatment
  • Complex medical conditions impacting menopause, such as Turner Syndrome

Urgent referral

Please mark your referral urgent if the patient has:

  • concerns about early menopause and plans to conceive in the future.

Exclusion criteria

Patients with mild menopause symptoms or where standard care has not been initiated in a primary care setting.

Essential information

All referrals must include essential demographic, medical and social history details, and relevant information about the presenting complaint.

Investigations

  • Consider hormonal tests (FSH and estradiol) if menopause is not clear on history.
  • If undertaken, include bone density, CST, breast screening.

Appointments

Clinics are held on Thursdays. Telehealth and face-to-face appointments are available depending on clinical requirements.
