Staff and volunteers were celebrated for their outstanding contributions to the Women’s and our community at the annual Staff Excellence Awards.

More than 30 people were recognised across six categories.

The ceremony was hosted by the Women’s Chief Operating Officer, Lisa Lynch. She paid tribute to those nominated for the impact they have on the culture of the hospital.

“Earlier this year, the Women’s was incredibly proud to be ranked as one of the top two metropolitan health services for workplace culture – cementing us as one of the best places to work, learn and contribute,” she said.

“This achievement is thanks to each and every person who makes up this hospital – from the frontline workers, to those in support and corporate roles behind the scenes, and to our volunteers and partners.

“For me, these awards really come down to recognising the people that create and maintain this exceptional culture.

“Everything we do for patients, starts with our people.”

She presented awards alongside the Women’s Board Chair Cath Bowtell, Chief eXperience Officer Sherri Huckstep and special guests Eleonora Cecconato, Maria-Christina Ferrara and Penny Woodward.

Exceptional achievements on show

The most prestigious award, the Woodward Family Medal of Excellence, went to Associate Professor Louise Owen.

A/Prof Owen has made significant contributions as a Neonatal Consultant and researcher since joining the Women’s in 2006.

Her research in neonatal respiratory support and resuscitation has gained international recognition. She is ranked among the top in the world for her expertise, and has led several influential clinical trials.

Staff and volunteers from across the hospital came together to celebrate the exceptional contributions of our people.

Three other staff members and one team were recognised for their outstanding contribution to the Women’s with major awards:

  • Board Chair’s Award for Innovation: The Birth Reflections Midwifery team. Since establishing the program 12 months ago, the team have ensured more than 400 women have had the chance to reflect on their births, giving them the opportunity to better understand their experiences and feel heard.
  • Chief Executive Award for Exceptional Leadership: Manager of the Women’s Alcohol and Drug Service (WADS), Kerri Felemonow. The award was in recognition of the work she does advocating for better care for vulnerable women and babies.
  • Liliana Ferrara Award for Commitment to Equity: Clinical Specialist Emma Royall. Her work in sexual health and the rapid access service exemplifies her commitment to health equity.
  • Outstanding Volunteer Leadership Award: Patient and Visitor supporter Dan Li. In her role, Dan has helped to create a positive environment where volunteers can thrive and continue to make a significant impact.
