Congratulations to Tom Price on completing 51 marathons in 51 consecutive days, to raise funds and awareness for the Women’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
The money and awareness Tom has raised for our NICU is truly life-changing!
Tom initially drew inspiration from his niece Sylvie and her mum (Tom's sister) Zoe. Sylvie was born prematurely at the Women's in 2023, and was cared for in our NICU for several months before being able to go home.
Along his running journey, Tom connected with many other families whose babies had been cared for in our NICU, spurring on his motivation.
He dedicated each run to a NICU family he met along the way. He did one more marathon than initially planned, a 51st marathon, to acknowledge the journeys of the remaining families.
The Women's Director (Nursing) of Neonatal Services Jane Bailey was among many staff from the Women's who attended Tom's 50th run on Saturday 27 January 2024.
Jane thanked Tom for everything he has done.
"Your efforts will have an impact for future NICU families through additional equipment, improvements and through supporting the research that will ensure we continue to provide the highest quality care with optimal outcomes," Jane said.
"Additional to that you have had such an impact in recognising our incredible staff and the work they do, as well as sharing the stories of the babies (and their families) that we have the privilege of caring for.
"Thank you for being part of our NICU community and for honouring Sylvie and all the other NICU babies too.”
