General gynaecology

The Women’s provides care for common gynaecology problems for local women. Highly specialised care for complex gynaecology conditions is provided to women from all across Victoria.

Health issues treated

Period (menstrual) pain, heavy menstrual bleeding, bleeding after menopause, endometriosis, fibroids, pelvic pain, infertility, pelvic floor problems causing incontinence or prolapse, and the insertion and removal of long-acting forms of contraception.

What we do

Diagnosis, treatment, advice and information for gynaecology problems. Depending on the condition, treatment might vary from lifestyle modifications to physiotherapy exercises to conservative medical management to surgery.

Information for patients

Primary care for common gynaecology problems

Gynaecology assessment, diagnosis and care is provided by either a nurse-practitioner (when appropriate) or specialist doctor.

Specialist care for complex gynaecology conditions

Gynaecology assessment, diagnosis and care will be provided by a team of specialist doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and dietitians.

Referrals

You will need a referral from your GP for gynaecology care at the Women’s. Referrals are valid for 12 months from the date of the first appointment at the Women’s.

  • Health Care Card (if you have one)
  • The results of any tests you have already had
  • The date of your last Cervical smear test
  • Details of any medicines you take, including medicines you have bought without a prescription
