The Women’s provides Childbirth Education training for interested health professionals and community educators.

About the Childbirth Education Training Course

The Childbirth Education Training Course is the only course in Victoria of this kind being run through the public health system. The training course highlights diverse client groups and demonstrates practical learning resources in ways that engage participants and promote interactive learning. The training course is conducted over four days.

The training manual that complements the course has been completely revised and the third edition is now available. It has been well received and is used by childbirth educators across Australia.

Training courses are held three times a year at the Royal Women’s Hospital. Bookings are essential as courses are limited to 15-20 participants.

This course is for new and relatively new educators. Subjects covered in the course could include:

  • why teach childbirth education
  • what topics to include
  • principles of adult learning
  • group dynamics
  • innovative ways of teaching parenting and breastfeeding
  • flexibility to learning needs
  • models of childbirth education

About the Advanced Childbirth Educators Training Course

The Advanced Childbirth Educators Training Course provides experienced educators with an opportunity to network, update and refresh their skills.

The training manual that complements the course has been completely revised and the third edition is now available. It has been well received and is used by childbirth educators across Australia.

The Advanced Training Course is held once a year or as required at the Royal Women's Hospital. Bookings are essential as courses are limited to 15 - 20 participants.

Subjects covered in this course could include:

  • what's new in childbirth education
  • update on current research
  • different ways of teaching labour and birth
  • innovative ways of teaching parenting and breastfeeding
  • implementing change
  • models of childbirth education
  • principles of hypnobirthing / calmbirthing
