Interprofessional simulation-based education program for maternity clinicians from Level 2 to 4 maternity services.

Meets the requirements of Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) Focus Area 1: Multidisciplinary Maternity Emergency Training of the Incentivising Better Patient Safety (IBPS) program. Currently delivered face-to-face (can be delivered virtually if COVID restrictions are in place).

Consult with experienced Clinical Midwifery Educators to develop a program that meets the needs of your service.


Program inclusions: 

  • Multidisciplinary Clinical Simulation Training
    • Cord Prolapse
    • Maternal Collapse (including resuscitative hysterotomy)
    • Maternal Sepsis
    • Obstetric Anaesthetic Emergencies
    • Pre-eclampsia/Eclampsia
    • Postpartum Haemorrhage
    • Shoulder Dystocia
    • Twin Birth
    • Uterine Inversion
    • Vaginal Breech Birth
  • Teamwork Resource Management
  • Clinical Skills Stations (as selected by service – see below)
  • Understanding Escalation Pathways
  • Quality and Safety Discussion & Report.
     

Clinical Skills Stations include (but are not limited to):

  • Artificial Rupture of Membranes
  • Cord Prolapse
  • Episiotomy
  • Fetal Scalp Electrode Application
  • Maternal Collapse (ABLS)
  • Maternal Sepsis
  • Postpartum Haemorrhage (Medication Management)
  • Pre-eclampsia/Eclampsia (Magnesium Sulphate Administration)
  • Shoulder Dystocia
  • Speculum Examination
  • Uterine Inversion
  • Vaginal Breech Birth
  • Vaginal Examination.
